If there’s one thing we’ve learned since welcoming Lulu, our energetic Belgian Malinois puppy, into our home, it’s that all dogs chew. But Lulu? Lulu chews more than most.
From the moment she arrived, Lulu has been a little chewing machine, her sharp puppy teeth constantly seeking out new targets. Our hands, our furniture, our shoes – nothing has been safe from her relentless jaws. It’s a good thing we’re long-time dog owners, because we knew we needed to get on top of this chewing behavior fast.
Our first step was to flood Lulu with chew toys. Through Amazon, we found a wonderful “beginner’s package” of all sorts of chew toys – ropes, rubber toys, to keep her busy.
And let me tell you, it made all the difference. Lulu’s aggressive chewing tendencies found an appropriate outlet, and we started to see a noticeable change in her temperament and energy levels. Instead of gnawing on our belongings, she was happily engaged with her own toys, satisfying that deep-seated need to chomp and grind.
Of course, it’s an ongoing battle. Lulu is still a puppy, after all, and her chewing instincts are strong. But having a rotation of interesting, durable chew toys has been a lifesaver. It’s saved our hands, our furniture, and our shoes from becoming Lulu’s personal chew toys.
So if you’re in the throes of raising a heavy chewer, take it from us – invest in quality chew toys, and lots of them. It may be your first purchase, but it’ll be worth it to preserve your sanity (and your belongings) during the puppy years. Lulu’s certainly grateful for her collection of chew-worthy treasures.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go refill Lulu’s toy box. That girl can really put a hurting on a good chew toy.
